About
Nimmahacks

Nimma Hacks is a hackathon that takes place in Nijmegen on 11 of December. During a hackathon, teams are ‘locked up’ in a room for a long time to come up with solutions for current issues. Nimma Hacks is an online hackaton lasting for 24 hours, where teams are free to sit together digitally or physically.

Teams are also given the opportunity to gain knowledge, to brainstorm, to get help from experts and to work out pitches to convince the jury. The jury and the experts will be announced via the social media channels.

In this edition, an issue from the Nijmegen Health & High-tech sector has been chosen. Nijmegen is known for being an Old City with a Young Vibe, but did you know that it also is the Health & Hightech hotspot of the Netherlands? Keeping healthcare affordable and accessible, providing sufficient and affordable food for everyone: these are just two major challenges of the future, which companies and research institutions in Nijmegen are working on together. We want to contribute to this with this hackathon! The exact problem statement is:

How can young people (especially women) in the Nijmegen region be motivated to choose a career or study in the direction of Health and Hightech and how can the business community already benefit from this in the short term by absorbing the shortage in the job market?

Questions

Do you need special skills or requirements to participate in Nimma Hacks?

No, anyone can sign up to and participate in Nimma Hacks. To have a connection with the field of Health & High Tech is not mandatory.

I am not from Nijmegen but would like to participate with a team, is that possible?

Of course. Make sure that you and your team arrange a workplace in Nijmegen. During Nimma Hacks we organize small challenges and if you win, we will send the prizes to this address. It is not necessary for the whole team to participate in Nimma Hacks in Nijmegen, we just need an address to send the prize if you win a challenge. If you can not arrange a workplace, feel free to contact us.

I can't come together with my team at a specific workplace, is that a problem?

This is not a problem; you can compete with your team online. Nimma Hacks uses the platform Discord. Here you have access to your own online meeting room. It is up to you which address is passed on for the prizes you may win.

We can not find a workspace in Nijmegen, what do we do?

If you can not find a workplace in Nijmegen, please feel free to contact us and we will see what we can arrange/facilitate together with our partners.

What is the minimum number of participants per team?

Each team has a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 people. If you don't manage to get a team together, you can still sign up. We will then assign you to a team.

Can I sign up without a team?

Yes, that is possible. If you don't manage to get a whole team together, we can assign you to a team.

What does the prize pool look like?

A good plan deserves to be realized and that is why the partaking parties reserved at least 10.000 euros to actually realize the idea! An independent jury ultimately decides who will win.
